Budget Travel - A New Hope for Pakistani Passengers

After the entry of Flyadeal airline into the Pakistani air travel market it is expected that it will make air travel more affordable for travelers. Aviation expert Malik explained that under the Open Skies Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in 2012, airlines from both countries can operate flights to any city in the other country. This agreement has made the launch of low-cost carriers like Flyadeal airline in Pakistan possible.

Malik also highlighted that the Flyadeal operates on a low-cost model, meaning passengers are charged for additional services such as food, drinks and luggage beyond a certain weight unlike few other major airlines where you have to pay a certain amount even you don’t ant to meal in your flight. This low-cost model allows the Flyadeal to reduce ticket prices while maintaining the quality.

Competition and Impact on Ticket Prices

Former PIA Marketing Director, Irshad Ghani stated that the launch of Flyadeal in Pakistan will increase competition among airlines flying between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia including PIA, Air Sial, Air Blue and other Saudi carriers. This competition is expected to lower the air ticket prices in Pakistan significantly.

Irshad Ghani also estimated that ticket prices could drop by 5% to 10% initially, with passengers saving even more, up to 20% to 25% by not choosing the additional services like food and extra luggage. However, he advised travelers carrying heavy luggage to carefully consider the prices of low-cost airlines.

Potential Drop in Umrah Ticket Prices

During a survey Moin Akhtar, a local ticketing agent pointed out that the Pakistan to Saudi Arabia route is one of the busiest, fulfilling the travel needs of workers, pilgrims and tourists daily. Currently, Umrah ticket prices in Pakistan range between Rs. 150,000 and Rs. 170,000, but the arrival of Flyadeal could reduce ticket prices by Rs. 10,000 to RS. 15,000.

A Promising Future for Budget Air Travel

The launch of Flyadeal airline in Pakistan signifies Saudi Arabia’s growing interest in providing accessible travel options for Pakistani passengers. With its low-cost model and plans for expansion, the airline is set to offer a competitive alternative on a route frequented by millions annually. For Pakistani travelers, this is an opportunity to enjoy cheaper airfares but for the aviation industry of Pakistan, it is an increased competition and growth in the Pakistan to Saudi Arabia travel route.
