Travel Needs

Passport with Visa Documents

You will be required to hand over your passport when you arrive in Saudi Arabia and get it back before leaving.

Vaccination Proof

All pilgrims who intend to visit Saudi Arabia are supposed to have a valid certificate of vaccination against quadrivalent A, C, Y and W135 meningococcal meningitis and also be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Depending on the residence country, you might still be supposed to carry a vaccine certificate against yellow fever or polio.

Passport Sized Photos

Carry at least 4 extra photographs with you to Saudi Arabia. You never know when they may be needed for document preparation and procedures along the way.

Saudi Riyals

A minimum of about 450 riyals, which will comfortably enable you to cover your initial costs upon arrival in Saudi Arabia until you familiarize yourselves with getting your money exchanged locally.

You can get your currency exchanged at the airport while arriving in Saudi Arabia, at the local banks, or money exchangers (Sarrah) in Makkah and Madinah

  • Preferably, this is a suitcase with a hard case and has a built-in locking system.
  • Never, ever get a soft, vinyl suitcase; thieves or malicious people can easily cut it open.

Prayer Essentials

  • Pocket Quran
    Copies of the Quran are available in the mosque but it is easier just to take your own. That way, you can sit without getting up and finding one or returning one which will probably bump you out of a space.

    Pocket-sized books with supplications from the Quran and Sunnah so that you can recite them on your journey
  • List of Dua
    Collect supplications you wish to make while on your journey.
  • List all of the supplications you wish to make including Duas for the Prophet, our pious predecessors, yourself, your family and relatives, the entire Muslim community and those who have passed away.

    Can be taken outside the Haram or used on roads due to traffic or crowds

  • Keep your money, important documents, debit/ credit cards, and keys in a quality waist pouch or neck pouch. Be watchful of thieves and pickpockets mostly at public places.

Loose-Fitting Comfortable Clothes

  • For men, the Saudi Thobe / Jubbah is appropriate, and also the Indo-Pak Shalwar Qameez.
  • For women, Abaya is one's best choice.

Sandals

  • While in your ihram, your ankles and the upper portion of your foot (where the shoelaces meet) have to be uncovered.

  • You may carry your footwear within the bag when you go into the Haramain so you will not lose them.
