During the journey, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Situated in Pinnawala village, this orphanage serves as both a sanctuary and breeding center for wild Asian elephants. Pinnawala boasts the world's largest herd of captive elephants, with 96 individuals in 2011 spanning three generations. Established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), the orphanage aims to care for and safeguard orphaned wild elephants found in the surrounding forests.

Additionally, you'll explore a Spice Garden in Mawanella, where you'll discover the variety of spices for which Sri Lanka is renowned. Here, you'll learn about the cultivation and processing of these spices, offering insight into the country's rich agricultural heritage.
After these enriching experiences, you'll proceed to check into your hotel, where the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 2 : Kandy Sightseeing

Enjoy a delightful breakfast before embarking on a sightseeing journey in Kandy. Explore the picturesque Upper Lake Drive, visit the Market Crafts Centre, and delve into the fascinating exhibits at the Gem Museum. Known as the hill capital, Kandy holds historical significance as the annual venue for the Perahera festival. This city, once the stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, was ultimately relinquished to the British in 1815.

In the evening, immerse yourself in the vibrant culture with a traditional dance performance at a late Cultural Show.
Afterwards, return to your hotel for a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 3 : Kandy Bentota

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Travel Time: Approximately 4 Hours

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, it's time to check out from the hotel. Begin your day with a visit to the splendid Royal Botanical Garden in Kandy before continuing your journey to Bentota.

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya sprawls over 147 acres and dates back to 1374 when it was established as a leisure garden for the Kings of Gampola and Kandy. With over 5,000 species of trees, plants, and creepers, including rare and endemic varieties, as well as flora from around the tropical world, the gardens are a true marvel. Don't miss the renowned Spice Garden and Orchid House, both favorites among tourists. The gardens are also adorned with five Palm Avenues, the oldest and tallest being the Royal Palm Avenue, planted in 1905. Another highlight is the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, boasting the largest seed of all plants in the world.

En route to Bentota, make a stop at the Geragama Tea Plantation, one of the finest tea estates in the country. Nestled close to Kandy, this expansive plantation offers a tailor-made, private tour where you can delve into the history of tea cultivation, from its early days to the intricacies of the manufacturing process and flavor development tailored to different tastes, all while enjoying local insights and flexibility.

Embark on a scenic boat ride along the Madu River in the vast Madu Ganga Estuary, linked by narrow channels to the Randombe Lake. This complex wetland ecosystem, comprising 64 mangrove islets, was recognized for its rich biodiversity in a survey conducted by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2000. Classified under the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands in 2003, the region boasts ten major wetland vegetation types supporting over 300 plant species and 248 species of vertebrates.

Next, immerse yourself in the conservation efforts for marine turtles at Kosgoda. With all seven species of marine turtles globally endangered, Sri Lanka is a crucial nesting site for five of these species. Witness the awe-inspiring process of turtle nesting, hatching, and their journey back to the sea at the Kosgoda Conservation Project, offering an insightful experience into the conservation of these magnificent creatures.
