Sevanavank Monastery
Sevanavank is perched on a peninsula of Lake Sevan and was founded by Gregory the Illuminator in 305. Archaeological finds indicate the site was inhabited during the Stone and Bronze Ages. According to an inscription on the southern wall of the Church of the Holy Apostles, the expansion and construction of the monastery in the 9th century were overseen by the daughter of Ashot I Bagratuni, founder of the Bagratuni royal house.
