Near the Columbia Icefield, visitors have the opportunity to venture onto a small part of North America's largest icefield. Following the Snowcoach tour, continue to discover waterfalls, wildlife, fossils, and more on an exhilarating 1-kilometer walkway leading to a platform where only glass separates you from a 918-foot (280 m) drop. It is the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, known for its stunning scenery. Opting for a cruise is possible, offering a picturesque way to experience the lake. Due to high demand, we highly recommend booking this option in advance. The lake is nestled in the Palliser Formation, a layer of limestone formed around 365 million years ago by lime-secreting plankton in a shallow tropical sea.Medicine Lake is notable for being one of the largest sinking rivers in the Western Hemisphere and possibly the largest inaccessible cave system globally. It is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park, where during summer, glacial rock flour enters the lake, giving it a vibrant turquoise hue. (If closed, Waterfowl Lakes offer an alternative.)
Named for its distinctive shape upon discovery, this stop is a must-see, especially in the context of current climate change. The "Third Toe" has melted and is now barely visible.
