The number of Umrah pilgrims varies from year to year. The number of Umrah visas issued by the Saudi Arabian government, which is a good indicator of the number of Umrah pilgrims, has varied greatly in recent years. The number of Umrah visas issued by Saudi Arabia reached its peak in 2015, with over 8 million visas issued. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Umrah visas issued dropped significantly in 2020 and 2021. Saudi Arabia suspended Umrah pilgrimage from March 2020 till the end of that year and re-opened it in a limited capacity in January 2021. The exact number of Umrah pilgrims for the year 2021 and beyond is not determined yet, it is subject to the situation with the pandemic and the regulations set by the Saudi government.
