According to a recent announcement by the head of General Presidency for Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Minister Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais the itikaf ritual will officially resume in the upcoming blessed month of Ramadan in the Grand Mosque in the city of Makkah and in Prophet Mosque in the city of Madinah after long hiatus of two year period. Itikaf Special Conditions:
The minister also clarified that the presidency will soon start issuing official permits through official website very soon which will adhere to special conditions and established criteria.
The blessed ritual Itikaf which comprises of staying at mosque for pure purpose of meditation and worship, was put on hold at the Two Holy mosques during 2020’s Ramadan period following the Covid 19 pandemic outbreak. The holy itikaf ritual remained suspended for the Ramadan 2021 period as well due to precautionary measures taken to control the coronavirus outbreak and spread.
Guidelines and Services for Itikaf worshipers:
It is expected that at least 100,000 people will carry out the holy ritual of itikaf at the two mosques during last ten days of blessed Ramadan month. The presidency in the year 2019 had provided rooftops allocation for itikaf worshippers having separate personal safes and shelves. Each itikaf worshipper was provided his own key for their personal locker to store their personal items including pillow, prayer rug, ihram clothes and light bed sheet.
The Saudi presidency has initiated online portal services to provide registration facilities and guidelines for holy Ramadan month’s potential worshippers who wish to carry out holy ritual of itikaf in the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
